A client of mine who is a Local Authority in Central London is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer who specialises Food, to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees and others in the local authority through the enforcement of health and safety standards in commercial premises and work activities. To protect the health of consumers through the enforcement of food hygiene and food standards, including the labelling and presentation of food in commercial premises.
Carry out, as directed, a range of services in accordance with legislation, codes of practice, corporate policies, local procedures and good professional practice. This will include but is not limited to: inspections, projects, surveys, alternative enforcement activities, publicity, attending meetings, processing applications, visits, investigating complaints and service requests, sampling, dealing with safety notifications and asbestos removals, accident investigations, monitoring, gathering evidence, revisits, making test purchases, carrying out PACE interviews, taking statements and determining appropriate action.

Undertake enforcement at the three Football Clubs as required. Duties include monitoring and taking action under health and safety, food safety and other legislation as appropriate.

To competently deal with the processing of applications, notifications, referrals, consultations, schemes, licences, registrations and grants, carry out reviews and give approval, as directed using any powers that have been delegated.

Ensure effective liaison is maintained with other relevant colleagues internally within the Council about matters relating to work within their areas.
Become familiar with, and work in accordance with Council policies, procedures, protocols, processes, risk assessments and techniques relevant to the job.
Keeping abreast of technical and legal developments in health and safety, food hygiene and food standards.
To participate in Environmental Health’s contribution to ensuring an effective response to civil and other emergencies using skills/expertise relevant to the functions of the post, and in accordance with council emergency procedures.



  • Degree or Diploma in Environmental Health recognised by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
  • Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board.
  • Evidence of active participation in continuing professional development.


  • Member of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
  • A health and safety specific qualification i.e. CIEH Diploma in Health and Safety at Work
  • NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety
