A client of mine who is a Local Authority is looking to recruit a Safety And Estates Officer to carry out a number of Fire Risk Assessments within the borough. The duties of a Safety and Estates Officer will include, carrying out fire safety checks across our housing stock, inputting data into spreadsheet and working with contractors to reduce fire loading on our estates. To be responsible for monitoring communal areas of our estates to ensure they are clear and comply with best practice and statutory requirements in the area of Health and Safety and Fire Safety.
To lead a schedule of estates inspections, working with repairs and estates services contractors to maintain these areas.
To ensure all estate management issues arising from FRA inspections are managed and resolved within target.
To support residents with repair reporting and resolution, by forming close working relationships with H&F repairs call-centre and contractors.
To provide a response service for estate-based emergencies, including leaks and power outages.
Build safe communities with proactive and consistent service delivery.
Carry out a weekly and monthly schedules of fire safety checks, identifying risks and reporting and resolving issues through agreed procedures and processes.
Manage and enforce H&F’s policy on items in communal areas, ensuring items are moved and communal areas comply with fire safety guidelines.
Promote fire safety on our estates, being a point of contact for residents for advice and information.
Process all neighbourhood services’ actions from Fire Risk Assessments, including Notice of Deficiencies, ensuring these are resolved within target deadlines.
Working with the Housing Officer team, H&S team, Adult Social Care and Fire Service to identify hoarders and residents who may present an increased fire risk. To maintain a register of these residents, working with colleagues and other agencies to negotiate and encourage tenants with complex needs to manage the risk, taking enforcement action where needed.
Processing applications for landlord consent for alterations, working with the Compliance Team to resolve unauthorised alterations, carrying out home visits where needed.
