We are currently working with a well-regarded Development Planning and Engineering specialist who are going through a steady period of growth and are looking for Drainage Engineers to reinforce their design team. With a wide portfolio of work in the Development sector and major clients across the Residential, Distribution, Logistics and Commercial arenas, including a strong heritage of major Highways schemes, they can offer a working environment which will see you thrive and grow within the business.

Their Civils team work alongside their clients from the earliest stages of a project advising on strategic land planning and alleviating concern by offering guidance through the planning process, and in turn driving projects forward through the design stage to successful project completion and conclusion. They have a true multi-disciplinary approach drawing from a broad range of expertise within.

Your new role within the business

We are seeking an experienced Flood Risk and Drainage Engineer to join this leading Consultancy where you will be given the opportunity to take a key role in a exciting range of schemes, from small highways improvements to large scale residential and commercial developments and the drainage challenges these create. As part of the team you will be tasked with delivery Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage Strategies on a range of Private and Public sector schemes.

Required skills and attributes considered necessary for the role

  • A degree in Civil Engineering (or other appropriate qualification)
  • A background in delivering SuDS and Drainage strategies, as well as the production and co-ordination of foul and surface water drainage design, river restoration / design, and contributing to environmental impact assessments and other civil engineering works within the water/environment industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience in preparing and delivering Flood Risk Assessments and Drainage strategies to support LP Reps, outline and detailed planning applications and discharging reserved matters.
  • A strong drainage capability (storm and foul) with a good understanding of drainage design with knowledge and experience of Sewers for Adoption 7th Edition, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Code of Adoption Agreement and The SuDS Manual (CIRIA C753).
  • A strong understanding of national planning policy and relevant legislation with regard to flood risk and drainage (such as NPPF, Flood and Water Management Act and Water Framework Directive) in addition to best practice in association with drainage, flood risk and the water environment
  • An understanding of hydraulic modelling techniques, Microdrainage, FEH, AutoCAD and GIS
  • An understanding of the Flood Risk Activity Permitting and Land Drainage Consent Process would be advantageous but not essential
  • Experience of meeting attendance and liaising with clients, architects, contractors, local authorities and other statutory bodies
  • Good report writing skills
  • Chartered status or working towards Chartered status (ICE/CIWEM) would be advantageous
