Licencing Officer

A client of mine in West Berkshire is looking for a Licencing Officer to join their team for a period of 2 months to help deliver an efficient and effective licensing service. To handle licence applications and enquiries, monitor compliance with conditions and relevant legislation, and to investigate complaints and incidents and take appropriate enforcement action as required and provide professional and technical advice to colleagues, Councillors, customers and external bodies as required.


Educated to ‘A’ Level standard or equivalent
Certificate of Higher Education in Licensing Law
Professional Licensing Practitioners Qualification
BIIAB National Certificate for Licensing Practitioners
NALEO Certificate in Taxi Licensing
Recognised qualification in Licensing

Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, Experience

Practical experience of law enforcement
Ability to prioritise and organise own workload
Broad awareness of local authority licensing
Ability to analyse and explain legislation
Presentation skills
Problem solving and negotiation or mediation skill
Experience of working in local government licensing, regulatory services or a legal environment
Experience of preparing formal written reports
Experience of carrying out investigations and interviews in connection with complaints and criminal matters
Experience of presenting cases to a Committee or Court
Experience of using the M3PP database

Work-related Personal Requirements

Use of a car for work purposes
Current full driving licence
Must be prepared to work outside normal office hours (including weekends) to meet the requirements of the role
An enhanced DBS check will be required
