We are supporting one of the UK’s leading infrastructure and engineering contractors to appoint a Managing Quantity Surveyor for the East Midlands region.
Our client are looking for an ambitious individual to assist in leading and supervising the regional commercial team, reporting to the Commercial Manager.

Job Purpose:
To ensure the successful financial delivery of multiple challenging highways projects working with National Highways and Local Authorities from pre. contract award through to post completion, as a key member of a successful management team using your commercial expertise and wealth of knowledge you will manage contracts and maximise the cashflow and margin as well as assessing, reviewing and mitigating commercial and contractual risks protecting the exposure of the Company to financial risks.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of commercial project delivery by a team comprising varying levels of Quantity Surveyors ensuring adherence to the commercial procedures and governance of the Business.
  • Management and collation of data for input into various internal and external level reporting requirements.
  • Ensure projects deliver to minimum margin expectations through cost control and value management.
  • Review and management of monthly cost value reconciliation (CVR) reports.
  • Review of monthly cost and value to complete forecasts for projects.
  • Review and negotiation of final accounts (Main and subcontract).
  • Advising on procurement issues.
  • Management of cost and risk.
  • Provision of commercial and contractual support and advice to the framework senior leadership team.
  • Input to customer care of all the stakeholders involved in the projects.
  • Promotion of positive image of the Tilbury Douglas name to protect and promote the brand name.
  • Motivation of team members to gain their commitment and support ensuring their optimum input into the projects.
  • Leading team development for the benefit of the individuals and the company including the undertaking of annual and interim PDR’s for subordinates.
  • Development of supply chain relationships with suppliers and sub-contractors for the benefit of projects .
  • Be a single point of contact for strategic suppliers.
  • Input to business continuity processes.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential

  • Qualification at degree level (or equivalent qualification).
  • Comprehensive experience in a similar position with a medium to major size Civil Engineering Contractor.
  • Relevant experience on challenging and diverse projects with major clients e.g. Highways England and Local Authorities ideally structures (bridges, roundabouts etc) experience, ideally with large project exposure and excellent NEC 3 contract experience.
  • Strong commercial/contractual knowledge.
  • Experience working in a collaborative environment.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Powerpoint and COINS (or equivalent).

Desirable

  • Further professional qualification or membership.
  • Contacts at senior level in appropriate client and supply chain organisations.
