Air Quality Assistant
A client of ours in Central London is looking for an experienced Air Quality Assistant to join their team for a period of 4 months, main duties will include:-
To carry out air pollution investigation, monitoring, control and enforcement. Check and maintain the air pollution monitoring stations, maintain the NOx monitoring programme, collect data and interpret trends.
Ensure that community complaints are investigated and that current legislation and best practice guidance is complied with and under the supervision of the Air Quality Officer carry out regular reviews and assessment of local air quality, to comply with the UK air quality strategy to agreed timetables.
Assist in the development and implement the air quality action Plan, carry out the assessment and review of planning applications allocated to the pollution team with respect to air quality issues as required by the Air Quality Officer peruse and assess the adequacy of air quality assessments. Interpret air quality data, modelled emissions and compare against relevant objectives, standards or guidelines.
Provide specialist technical advice on all air quality issues and be responsible for ensuring that such advice is given in accordance with the best professional standards, where appropriate assuming and exercising delegated statutory authority.
Ensure compliance with current legislation making decisions on applications or dealing with issues as they arise, or within prescribed timescales, and using enforcement and other legal measures as necessary.
Promote the work and services of the directorate and section liaising with other services, external bodies and statutory authorities including the provision of information, advice, guidance and assistance to residents, elected members and businesses.
Qualifications & Experience
- A degree in the Environmental Sciences
- Experience of implementing air quality strategies and investigation of pollution cases
- Ability to use information technology systems and equipment, including spatial mapping software
- Ability to manage projects effectively, including the use of dedicated software
