A client of ours in East London is looking for an Environmental Health Officer to deal with Enforcement on a 3-6 month initial contract.
As a Qualified Environmental Health Officer you will be expected to deliver a high quality specialised service in the area of private sector Housing, and advise on the full range of issues which meet the needs to a multi-racial community including managing projects and assisting in policy development as required. The desirable candidate will have experience looking at housing regulations, and will be visiting and inspecting properties that are licensed under the clients selective, and additional licensing schemes.
The selected candidate will act as an experienced Environmental Health Officer and work on allocated projects and carry a case load ensuring all work is undertaken in accordance with statutory requirements, the client’s policies and procedures, the highest professional practice and to the benefit of the residents. In addition, you will also provide specialist technical advice on all issues relating to the work of Environmental Protection – Housing and be responsible for ensuring that such advice is given in accordance with the best professional standards, where appropriate assuming and exercising delegated statutory authority.
The role will also require you to use appropriate interventions, using delegated powers and specialist skills (audit, inspection, enforcement powers, negotiation and persuasion) within all types of activity, with the aim to gain and ensure compliance with Environmental Health legislation so that the standards of public health are protected and enhanced for residents, businesses and visitors.
Skills and requirements

  • Qualified Environmental Health Officer with minimum of 3 years’ experience
  • Relevant Degree in Environmental Sciences or equivalent
  • Deliver advice, run campaigns and education initiatives with businesses, residents and targeted groups to raise and improve levels of public health within the Borough
