The Head of Digital is a new and exciting role required to enable us to meet the challenges of our growing business, provide focus on and drive excellence across our digital services and project delivery. This role brings together three core digital functions: Information Management, BIM Management and Project Technology, in addition to developing a fully transverse digital business function including: digital innovation and new services; business systems; tools and process and competence, Learning and Development. The role can be based from any of our key offices with a focus on York, Manchester and Birmingham and significant flexibility to work from home.

The Head of Digital will provide leadership and direction to business units, delivery teams and projects. They will develop strategy to establish and deliver a business plan working with the company’s Technical Director business sections leads.

Main Duties

  • Establish and roll out business strategy and change plan for Digital
  • Management and development of Core digital teams to support project delivery and align the company on digital services and delivery.
  • BIM coordination and Management – Digital Engineering
  • Information Management and Control
  • Project Technology and solution development
  • Review and prepare a development plan for the core digital teams and services covering people, processes and systems.
  • Support projects and disciplines to develop digital solutions.
  • Provide digital compliance, governance and reporting on a monthly basis across the company
  • Ensure projects are compliant with our IMS and client requirements
  • Advise and update IMS process and guidance.
  • Work with HR / L&D to ensure the company have the right competence and digital Learning and Development is structured and driven across the company
  • Support the development and growth of technical teams, by ensuring suitable skills and competencies are identified, assessed and developed
  • Support and develop the company’s Digital Apprentice programme

Required Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Chartered Professional – Membership of professional institute
  • Accreditation or certification to recognised bodies
  • Membership or participation on UK / international committees, forums or steering groups
  • Proven track record in delivering digital solutions, establishing strategic plans and delivering business change in an engineering and infrastructure environment.
  • Knowledge of Network Rail and/or HS2 digital systems and solutions
  • Knowledge of BIM and collaboration tools
  • Integrity and high professional standards in line with the Engineering council Charted Engineer attributes
  • Exhibit a zero-tolerance approach to unprofessional, unethical or unsafe behaviours
  • Experience of collaborative working relationships
