Health & Safety Advisor

A client of mine in Gosport is looking for a Health & Safety Advisor to join their team for a period of 6 months to advise on the Establishment Safety Policy so that all matters regarding Health, Safety and supporting legislation is implemented.
To advise all personnel on their Health and Safety responsibilities and to give advice to personnel on all matters relating to Health & Safety.
To arrange Health and Safety training courses as required by personnel.
To ensure that first aid trained personnel in sufficient numbers where risk assessment necessitates in accordance with First-Aid at Work Regulations 1981.
To investigate and keep records of all accidents, near misses or dangerous occurrences and present them via the Monthly register and inform the site appointed Trade Union (TU) Safety Representative.
To co-ordinate and propose any amendments required to ensure the Establishment Safety Policies are kept up to date.
To set Health and Safety performance indicators for inclusion in the Establishment SHEP SD Management Plan along with annual improvement objectives.
To be the focal point for Health and Safety reference information (Access to electronic library – Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and British Standards).
To co-ordinate the conduct of all types of Risk Assessments.
To co-ordinate and carry out Safety Audit/ Inspections of all buildings and grounds in accordance with JSP 375 Volume 1 Arrangements Chapter 4, ensuring that safe working practices are adhered to and that there are no potential hazards.
To assist the Occupational Nursing Advisor in undertaking Noise Assessments as requested by Departments.
Act as Appointed Duty Holder for the Establishment Control of Contractors procedure.
Undertake to identify Health and Safety risks and issues throughout the site by adopting a pro-active approach to encouraging a vigilant, conscientious positive safety culture.
To attend Head of Establishment Rounds providing Health and Safety advice as necessary.
To coordinate Safety, Health, Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development Meetings and assist the Chairperson in their undertakings when meetings sit To provide advice and guidance to Event Organisers and one – off Establishment events.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Educated to degree level or significant practical experience (NEBOSH)
  • Practical experience of successfully performing in a similar role.
  • Knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Knowledge of accident and incident reporting and RIDDOR regulations
  • Knowledge of health and safety systems
  • Knowledge of health and safety risk management
