Health & Safety Manager
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety Manager working in the warehousing and distribution industry on behalf of our client, who prides itself on being the ‘Employer of choice’ within the shipping industry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the safety, health and environment across the whole company, delivering H & S training to employees as well as ensuring that H & S risk assessments are carried out accordingly.
The HSE Manager is responsible for the development and provision of regulatory advice, guidance and support. To implement the company and client’s corporate strategy for Health and Safety assurance, support the Regional and Site Managers with the management of Health, Safety and Environment throughout the clients UK portfolio and undertake accident investigations and to measure performance against the H&S policy and identify good practice and areas for improvement where required.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications or equivalent experience working in a similar role in warehousing, storage and logistics, however other industry experience will be considered. The role will include some travel usually 3-4 days a month and you will need to communicate with people on all levels.
Qualifications and Required skills
Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills
Problem solving and organisation
Proactively lead H&S solutions across the business
Ideally qualified to NEBOSH Diploma Level or equivariant and a Chartered member of IOSH
The possession of a NEBOSH Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management would be advantageous. (level of PIEMEA (preferable) or NEBOSH Env Cert would be sufficient.)
DGSA (Dangerous Goods Safety Advisers) qualified is essential for this role (however we may consider training for the right candidate)
Experience of ISO standards (45001, 14001 and 9001) with auditor experience highly desirable.
Preparation of health and safety strategies and develop and deliver internal policy
Reporting at senior level to ensure working practices are safe and comply with legislation
Lead in-house training with managers and employees about health and safety issues and risks
Using internal incident reporting systems to keep records of inspection and findings and reports that suggest improvements
Carry out regular site inspections for industrial locations and where required customer site risk assessments to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented
Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all Health and Safety Executive (HSE) legislation
Attend Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) seminars and keep up to date with professional journals
