Principal Consultant – Active Travel

My client is now recruiting a Principal Consultant or Associate – Active Travel Planning for its Transport Planning team, to support the continued growth and exciting pipeline of work developing Active Travel initiatives across the UK & Ireland. The role will ideally be based from our Glasgow or Edinburgh offices but this is not essential, there is also extensive opportunity for working from home with our companywide hybrid working model. At a time when active travel solutions continue to be a crucial focus point for our clients and communities, this is an exciting time to become part of shaping our local travel future.

Main Duties:

  • Developing successful proposals as well as managing and delivering projects involving walking and cycling strategies
  • Developing and delivering feasibility studies, transport appraisal, funding bids and policy & strategy development in the field of Active Travel
  • Managing technical staff and project budgets
  • Managing clients and stakeholder relationships in project delivery
  • Network development, continuing to build out relationships with our existing client base and identifying opportunities to be involved in wider Active Travel projects

Experience Required:

  • Bachelors degree but preferably a Masters. Ideally, but not essential, with a Professional qualification such as TPP (or evidence of being close to achieving this)
  • Broad range of transport planning skills.
  • Knowledge of the relevant policy context, design guidance, and available funding streams.
  • Experience in developing Active Travel policies and strategies, cycle network development, options appraisal, and feasibility studies for walking, cycling and placemaking schemes.
  • Experience of preparing and delivering engagement and consultation activities with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to undertake client-facing tasks with little supervision.
  • Good proposal and report writing skills.
  • Confident in client facing roles with experience of project and people management.
  • Ability to train and oversee junior members of staff
  • Strategic, practical and creative thinker
  • Proven strong analytic and technical skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential to the role
