Safer Communities Manager
A client of mine in Warwick is looking for a Safer Communities Manager to join their team for a period of 6 months, the purpose of the role is to ensure that the community safety agenda is progressed through Partnership. You will work with the South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership, the Warwickshire Police & Crime Commissioner, the Police Strategic Alliance of Warwickshire, the County Council, Government Office for the Region and Home Office. These Partners need to be treated with sensitivity as they all have different cultures and agendas and the post holder will need to move these forward together.
Involvement with the local community is required to ensure integration of proposals with community aspirations and you will be involved directly and indirectly in attending various public and councillor forums, this area of work is complex and demanding as the responsibility for management of partnership funds awarded by central government is closely scrutinized by the Government Office for West Midlands.
You will be required to lead on this area of work, which involves comprehensive data gathering exercise and analysis of the data to highlight crime trends and hot spots within the District and to develop strategic and operational interventions which translate into neighbourhood delivery to address those hot spots in crime trends.
There are a number of complex and important functions within the section, having impact for the wider community as well as delivering statutory duties. Balancing the demands of the reactive elements of the service, alongside the need to ensure that the Council as a whole meets its statutory duties and those of the South Warwickshire Community Safety Partnership, provides a difficult challenge.
Getting buy-in to address the Crime & Disorder agenda where it works across the different services of the Council requires excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others in a climate of limited funding and rapidly changing policy initiatives.
Experience & Qualifications
Degree in Environmental Health or equivalent qualification acceptable to the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board
EHORB registered or clear evidence of working towards registration.
Extensive experience, in the public sector, of delivering relevant functions, in particular Environmental Protection, Emergency Planning, Community Safety and CCTV functions
Experience of preparing legal cases, bringing cases to court and committees and giving evidence.
- least 5 years’ experience at a relevant (senior) management level including responsibility for budget management.
Experience of preparing bids for funding in a public sector environment and understanding of funding arrangements in relation to local authorities
Knowledge of Environmental Protection including pest control.
Working Knowledge of emergency planning and CCTV.
Working Knowledge of in the Community Safety and ASB field in particular the ‘Putting Victims First’ agenda compliance requirements with legislation.
Knowledge of the current health & wellbeing agenda across the public sector.
Ability to use and analyse technical data and to devise and implement strategies based on relevant information.
