Structural Engineer/Senior Structural Engineer
Permanent/ Possibly contract for the right candidate
£40,000 – £50,000
My client are one of the top performing water and sewerage companies in the UK. Their engineering and construction division is a multi-disciplinary design and construct contractor, responsible for the delivery of an annual GBP 160M programme of water treatment, waste water and network projects across the region. To ensure delivery of our projected workload over the coming decade, we are expanding our in-house technical and design function.
Their current recruitment focus is on developing our structures design team at engineer or senior engineer level.
The role requires being able to undertake structural engineering evaluation and calculations together with the provision of specific investigations.
You will be able to complete permanent works designs and have a knowledge of temporary works.
The team provided technical input and approval for all structural works on the capital programme.
If you join them as an engineer or senior engineer, you will be expected to work within project teams to help drive the function’s development and to provide support to the team as well as other internal stakeholders.
This should include structural design and detailing, including concrete, steel, masonry and timber for new permanent works and modifications to existing structures. Experience in quantitative and qualitative assessment of existing structures is imperative, including design of repair solutions.
Ideally, you will be a chartered member of an appropriate professional institute, eg, MICE or MIStructE or you will be actively working towards this. You’ll need both site and office-based experience in the construction sector.
Additionally, you should have knowledge of temporary works design. This should cover as many areas as possible, including excavation support, facade retention, tower and mobile crane base, formwork/falsework/scaffold design, shoring/propping and jacking/piling. You should also have a good working knowledge of a range of structural software packages.
Irrespective of your level, you will regularly act as a focal point of contact with the construction and utility teams, so you must be confident and effective working in a dynamic, fast-moving environment. You must also be an excellent communicator with all levels of staff from director to site operative. You’ll be self-motivated and commercially-aware with excellent time management skills so that you can manage your own workload, including utilising consultant support where necessary.
Their established mentoring structure means that we can provide you with all the professional development support you need to take your career to the next level. We also offer an excellent remuneration package. You will be based in our award-winning office in Bath but will also be required to regularly attend sites to provide reactive support around our region too, so a driving licence is essential.
You must be able to prove your eligibility to work in the UK and provide evidence of qualifications gained.
