Surfacing Supervisor – National Surfacing Contractor
£42,500 + Car or Car Allowance

Reporting to: Contracts Manager
Responsible for: Surfacing Operatives

Key Tasks and Accountabilities:

  • To develop and promote partnering with the client and various stakeholders on the contract, both internal and external. Attend pre-site contract meetings and agree methods of working at the key stages as required under the contract.
  • To programme and resource the works as efficiently as possible, working within the constraints and specification of the contract. To submit a weekly programme accompanied with a P&L forecast to the Contracts/Operations Manager each Thursday for the following week.
  • To control costs and ensure the contract is resourced accordingly, within budgeted levels to maintain the agreed ‘Minimum Acceptable Profit Margins’.
  • To assist the Contracts Manager, Commercial and Finance Departments in the monitoring of costs and preparation of final accounts, i.e. responsibilities will include; Ensuring accurate ‘Papyrus’ costings are completed on time, the measurement and finalisation of the accounts within 2 weeks of completion, Maintenance and supply of accurate records to back up all applications.
  • To ensure compliance with all relevant Quality Assurance, i.e. Sector Scheme 16 requirements and to complete routine audits during regular site visits.
  • To ensure works are carried out both professionally and to the standards and specifications required by the client.
  • To provide an after-sales service to our clients and to monitor quality of all works.
  • To supervise and promote safe working processes including the completion of Safety Audits and Toolbox talks, to ensure the continued development of a safe and environmentally focused working culture.
  • To use the Integrate Management System (IMS) and The Way We Work (TWWW) on the Intranet to promote consistency and high standards across the business and to capture and promote improvement at all times.
  • To ensure all records are completed at site level and submitted weekly to H.O. in line with EFQM and, TWWW and IMS. (These will include Sector 16 laying records, Daily Plant & Vehicle Inspections, Daily Defect Reports, Wages, Action Report Forms etc.).
  • To submit monthly KPI information by requested date e.g. Exposure hours, Planing tonnages, waste, and vehicle/plant information for Carbon footprint.
  • To attend and participate in team briefings.
  • To actively foster a positive staff morale.
  • To willingly carry out any reasonable task as requested by a member of management.

Measures of Success:

  • Safety performance measures, LTIs/RIDDOR/Safety Audits and toolbox talks in line with company targets.
  • Monitoring of PAPYRUS contract costing information – completeness and accuracy. (Zero tolerance on late costs).
  • Individual Contract Performance reported through KHEOPS, i.e. to budgeted profit margins or better.
  • Feedback from progress meetings with client and line management.
  • Appraisal System – Achievement of Annual Personal Business Objectives, assessment of behaviours and associated improvements.
  • Client relationships professionally developed and maintained.
  • Customer Feedback Surveys, and Sector 16 audits.
  • To adhere to company procedures with regards to Health, Safety and Environment and ensure all team members fully comply.
  • To fully embrace EFQM – The Way Forward and TWWW.
  • Work to and actively support and promote the clients IMS, to develop, maintain and improve service delivery and customer satisfaction.
  • Meeting deadlines and developing operational improvements as a matter of course.
  • Consistently working at a level consistent with, or higher than, agreed divisional service levels.
  • To take adequate steps to ensure the security of Company and Client property and information under your control.
  • To ensure that all communication, both verbal and written, represents a professional image to customers and employees alike.
  • To actively seek and identify opportunities for reducing costs and maximising contract performance, i.e. profit.
  • To comply with any reasonable instruction from your line manager within the agreed deadline.
  • Hands on and active support for colleagues.
  • A professional approach at all times which enhances the image of the client, and supports the company’s stated Vision and Values and where applicable to ensure all team members do likewise.
  • A personal approach and style that ensures the team works in a proactive and positive manner.

Additional Information:

  • At all times to adhere to company procedures with regard to Health & Safety and where applicable to ensure all team members do like wise.
  • The role of a Supervisor is a position that requires good detailed knowledge of all operational and commercial issues that affect the contract performance.
  • It requires the supervisor to develop, plan and execute detailed programmes, maximising efficiency and making effective use of company resources to maximise profitability.
  • Training support will be essential to ensure that Supervisors have the skill set to meet all the requirements of the role and this will be addressed through appraisal and training development.

Qualifications / Tickets:

  • A full UK driving License.
  • CSCS Manager.
  • Frontline Supervisor programme.
  • NRSWA Supervisor.
