The primary purpose of job
To provide strategic and technical leadership, and management of our technical activities, including overall responsibility for Health & Safety, Wellbeing, Quality and Standards within the group companies, related certification and driving a holistic culture internally and externally, advising the:

  • SHEQW planning team;
  • Chief Technical and Operations Officer;
  • Executive Team; and
  • Board of Trustees

The Director of Technical will be responsible for providing mentorship to all product owners from a technical perspective, ensuring cohesion and accuracy across our entire portfolio with an appropriate quality assurance framework and organisation-wide CPD and development programme in place; as well as leading the internal Technical Group and selected stakeholders including HSE, Clients and relevant Trustees; this will include arrangements for informing, setting and continually reviewing best practice.
To engage with external stakeholders from a technical perspective to build the credibility of the organisation and support commercial, policy and charitable activities.

Person Specification
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject, with a Lead Auditor qualification
  • Breadth and depth of experience and understanding of the health, safety and wellbeing sector and issues
  • Proven strategic leadership, including portfolio development and management
  • Strong financial literacy skills
  • Evidence of strong IT skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Evidence of strong verbal and written influencing and communication skills

Desirable

  • NEBOSH (or equivalent) Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or first or post-graduate degree in health and safety
  • Understanding of Environmental and wider risk management issues

EXPERIENCE
Essential

  • Experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary technical teams with demonstrable outputs
  • Experience of managing wide ranging portfolio at strategic level
  • Strong evidence of setting and managing quality assurance standards and processes
  • Previous roles in senior technical management capacity with experience in delivering audit or structured consultancy in relevant technical areas
  • Experience of operating across international boundaries
  • Experience of managing budgets

Desirable

  • Audit qualification and experience in an international context
  • Working with external agencies including Regulators and policy makers
  • Experience in delivering training
