Transport Planner

A client of mine in South London is looking for an experienced and resourceful Transport Planner to drive forward their ambitious programme of transport and public realm improvements, focused on the Waterloo area.

The post holder will act as internal client for a range of projects that support implementation of the Transport Strategy and Covid-19 recovery programme.

They will manage a portfolio of projects through inception, appraisal, project development, stakeholder engagement, agreement (RIBA 1-3) and evaluation as appropriate.

To develop and manage, in conjunction with the Transport and Public Realm Strategy Manager, the delivery of high profile, high quality and high value transport infrastructure projects, within a programme of regeneration. The post holder will maximise inward investment from the private and public sectors to support transport and infrastructure projects and wider transport objectives. The post holder will act as internal sponsor for a range of highway improvement projects that support implementation of the Transport Strategy. The post holder will ensure that new development complies with local, regional and national planning and transport policies; that there is no adverse safety or traffic impact resulting from new development; and that the regeneration aims are supported, including the provision of advice on transport matters in projects promoted by the council and its partners.

Relevant Experience

Experience of working in a transport planning environment, with demonstrable project management experience in the public or private sectors, supported by relevant professional qualifications.

Experience of working in a political environment, advising Members and colleagues to ensure best outcomes are achieved.

Experience of building support and maintaining a high level of commitment from stakeholders to ensure that the organisation’s wider aims are met.

Experience of negotiating effectively with developers and other external parties including partners and resolving conflicts.

Experience of managing staff in a corporate environment.


A relevant qualification in town planning, engineering, transport planning, or related subject.
